project 2 Final submission

1. Geometric shape / Looking at the detail and the whold of building

First strategy was looking at the detail and the whole of Villa savoye.
first i started with the finding its detail and the whold from top view which was looking at the each level's floor plan.
And from that, i found its distinctive geomteric shapes.
So in order to draw abstract diagram for this, i divided the exterior and interior within the geometric shapes and finally acheive below diagrams.
In these diagrams, i applied various ways in order to describe its shapes by using thickness of the lines and using the different colours which were black and grey.
So overall, these diagrams represent the space of the building with simple geometric shapes.

2. Exterior and Interior by using Negative and Positive space.

For second strategy, i used the 'Exterior and interior' of this building.
Based on the first geometric shape, i got an idea of using positive and negative space.
Since it has very strong and simple geometric shapes, i thought it would be really powerful to emphasize its exterior and interior.
So i used the plaster casting in ordrer to experiments with different materials of modelling.
And i think this was work quite well since it cleary shows the
positive and negative space of this building.

3. Pilotis
My last model was representation of Pilotis in Villa Savoye which was one of important elements of this building.
When Lecorbusier built Villa savoye, he suggested five points of new architecture.
These were
-Support of ground level 'Pilotis', elevating the building from the earth and allowed an extended continuity of garden beneath.
-Functional Roof/Roof Garden
-Free Floor Plan
-Long horizontal windows
-freely-designed facades/load-bearing system
And from these five points, i thought pilotis was really important part of this building since it was different from previous architectures since it did not use any partition walls in order to create the wall, and used the pilotis instead and it is not only related with the exterior but also related with the interior.
By set the pilotis on the ground floor, it also creates golden ratio within.

In order to create model, i used plaster base and use the drill machine in order to create the whole for pilotis.

project2 Interim submission

Interim Submission before final

1. Based on the strategy 'looking at the detail and the whole of the building',
i was looking at the whole building and its detail, each level's plans and found its dinstinctive geometric shape of each floors'.
So i used these three geometric shapes to play with Le corbusier building's detail and the whole.
And below images are how i experimented with different way of showing its geometric shapes.
( By dividing exterior and interior using its shape and using the thickness/colour of the lines by using grey and black colour)

2. Pilotis/Grid

By looking at the one of the points from lecorbusier's five points, i was looking detailed about its pilotis and grid. and tried to make analysed and abstract model from that.

3. My last model was based on the exterior and interior of the building.
By using the negative and positive space, i did the plaster casting based on the first idea which was geometric shape of detail and the whole.

Week5 Project2 Interim Submission

The strategic aspect of architecture that i chose was 'Closely look at the architectural relationship between the detail and the whole in the house and its garden and map this in terms of building's use'.

First, i started with the idea of Macro and micro by looking at the Villa Savoye's plan as a whole, which was macro and then looking its detail as a micro.

And from this, i found the geometric characteristic of this architecture and tried to use this as the main concept that i'll use for its strategic aspect.

based on the interim diagram of each floor's plan, i got its unique geometric shape.

And During studio, i experiment how am i going to use negative / positive concept by using geometric shape

String Diagram

Above image is the research of Josef albers's work, and from his homage to square paintings, i kind of experiment with the geometric shape in another way, below.

Josef Albers
This works explore the artists endless fascination with the discrepancy between how colors look when seen one at time and how they appear in different combinations.
According to him, he believed that we experience color varies based on our individual personalities and on factors such as hue, dimension, placement.

Another artists who used the color and geometric shape in his paintings, Mark Rothko.

Mark Rothko
Rectangular forms floating on a stained filed of color.
Heavily inspired by mythology and philosophy.
Rothko's art was profoundly imbued with emotional content and articulated through a range of styles that evolved from figurative to abstract.
